The book really is a wealth of inspiration and we are enjoying browsing all of the brilliant logos included. If you are interested in purchasing the book it can be bought on Amazon.

As you may be aware, we at down with design recently launched our first ever IOS app. This post will describe the general process of creating the app, rather than from a code specific point of view. Starting from the software download phase right up to submitting the application to the app store, I will aim to shed some light on some of the issues I came across, offering solutions and tips where I can. Setting up the environment The...

You may or may not have noticed that I love a monochromatic colour palette. I’ve had a few requests asking whether I could display some of my previous logo projects in black and white, which I feel is always the best way to truly look at the form of a logo. I’ve put together a custom designed WordPress website (with the help of Dan!) that does just that. Take a look at www.blacklogos.com.

In March 2012, for the first time ever, Google Chrome was the most used browser on the web. Ever since it’s introduction in September 2008, its usage share figures have been rising, coinciding with the gradual decline of it’s main two competitors, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. With a 37.3% share, contrasted to 36.3% and 18.9% for Firefox and Internet Explorer respectively, the latest figures indicate the first significant change in user preferences since Firefox surpassed Internet Explorer in January...

Rest assured, it hasn’t! You are most likely reading this because you have received an email from what looks like Itunes that looks something like the following: This is just the latest in a long line of methods that hackers and phishers are using to lure in unsuspecting users. First we had hundreds of people winning Nigerian lotteries, then we had people being charged astronomical amounts on their paypal accounts. Now we have this new Itunes scam. I will admit,...

With the release of Windows 8 just around the corner it appears that a new logo has been leaked which is possibly the new identity for Microsoft’s flagship operating system. The design above is much simpler than the image we have been familiar with for over 20 years, with the primary colour being dropped completely. It seems that the ‘wave’ in the icon artwork has also been dropped in favour of a focus upon perspective. I would have to say...

Finally. It’s been 6 years since there has been a proper website on my home domain. You know how the old story goes, a cobbler never has time to mend his own shoes, and that has been the case for myself, hence the previous tongue-in-cheek placeholder. I’ve made a concerted effort to make some time to get the portfolio website up and running over the past couple of months, along with the great help from my brother, Dan, who has...

Incase you didn’t already know, here is a short background of the Occupy Movement according to Wikipedia: “The Occupy movement is an international protest movement which is primarily directed against economic and social inequality.” Having read that you would assume that such a ‘movement’ would be opposed to a system that only rewards winners, or people judged to be top of the pile? Well, for some bizarre reason, which I find incredibly laughable, the ‘movement’ have decided to launch a...

The Halloween season is over and now another issue has resurfaced that scares designers worldwide. Unfortunately, Brandstack, a website which sold community submitted logo designs for three years, has closed it’s doors once and for all. I’m not one to put the boot in as I will be sad to see people lose their jobs, but the fact that another stock logo outfit has gone out of business is technically a good thing in terms of preserving the integrity of...
